Leonard Blaskowski
Leonard Blaskowski was a medic during in World War II with combat experience.
Leonard Blaskowski, born in 1920, served as a medic in the United States' Army Corps. In training, he attended the 2nd Medical Battalion and the the 2nd Infantry The battle he called the most memorable was the D-Day Invasion. He said "On D-Day, we had no idea what to expect." They went in ships carrying 300-400 people. Due to the all of the shooting, he also said that if you moved, you would get shot, even by your own men, because no one knew who was who or what you were. Blaskowski and other medics were not allowed to have possession of firearms, because they had a cross on their helmet, and that meant that you don't shoot at them. If there was a cross on an aid station, you were supposed to bomb it. Leonard Blaskowski recently died, at age 93, on March 21, 2014.
